Proverbs 4: Listen to Your Protector
Wisdom is the path of peace. Evil brew chaos.
Read v. 1-9
Hear, O sons, a father’s instruction,
2 for I give you good hprecepts;
do not forsake my teaching.
3 When I was a son with my father,
4 he ktaught me and said to me,
l“Let your heart hold fast my words;
mkeep my commandments, and live.
do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth.
6 Do not forsake her, and she will keep you;
olove her, and she will guard you.
7 pThe beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,
and whatever you get, get ginsight.
8 Prize her highly, and she will exalt you;
9 She will place on your head sa graceful garland;
she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.”
The greatest protector we have is our Holy Father. He sent the Bible to earth to be instructions for us to live life with the least amount of possible pain. How do we implement this instruction successfully? In these verses, we see father mentioned it refers to the earthly father. As a parent it is our responsibility to pass on our learned wisdom to ourchildren. We want our children to succeed in whatever they do and avoid the pitfalls of the devil. Advice from the wise should not be disregarded. When we do we are left vulnerable to repeat the patterns of our families. This starts generational patterns that ones adapt as generational curses. Single mothership. Spending beyond ones means.
that uthe years of your life may be many.
11 I have vtaught you the way of wisdom;
I have led you in the paths of uprightness.
12 When you walk, wyour step will not be hampered,
and xif you run, you will not stumble.
13 yKeep hold of instruction; do not let go;
guard her, for she is your zlife.
14 aDo not enter the path of the wicked,
and do not walk in the way of the evil.
15 Avoid it; do not go on it;
turn away from it and pass on.
16 For they bcannot sleep unless they have done wrong;
they are robbed of sleep unless they have made someone stumble.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness
cand drink the wine of violence.
The first peace is to listen. In order to listen we know it requires closing our mouths. I’m sure everyone can relate to wanting to give the silent treatment but, you can never quite succeed. Why is it so hard for us to hold our tongue? I would argue it has to do with America being a fast culture. People don’t want to take the time to slow down and fully listen to one another. They already know the answer before you finish talking. I was never able to help until I was able to truly listen. Step two is to accept it as truth. As we read the Bible, we aren’t called to call into to question it’s truthfullness. We know Jesus is the WORD! He is telling us truth. This is why we are called to meditate on God’s Word. We must allow it to soak into our being as truth in order to embody who God has called us to be. If you are confused and don’t understand seek out the wise for help that can come in the form of 1. Prayer to the Holy Spirit for understanding. 2. Doing more research into other scriptures connected to what you are reading. 3. Seek guidance from spiritually wise counsel. Bible study can quickly become a deep dive into the meaning meant for us in the Word. The more you read the more you may become curious of the your path. Hang in there and soak in the truth.
they do not know over what they jstumble.
20 kMy son, be attentive to my words;
incline your ear to my sayings.
21 lLet them not escape from your sight;
mkeep them within your heart.
22 For they are nlife to those who find them,
and healing to all their2 flesh.
23 Keep your heart with all vigilance,
24 Put away from you qcrooked speech,
and put rdevious talk far from you.
25 sLet your eyes look directly forward,
and your gaze be straight before you.
uthen all your ways will be sure.
27 vDo not swerve to the right or to the left;
turn your foot away from evil.
So we are listening, soaking in truth, and finally listening to our protector we must protect our hearts. There is a reason the ways of the wicked are explained. There are many different traps in this world waiting for those who are uninformed. Or informed and underestimate that THIS IS WAR. WAR FOR YOUR SOUL! THE WAR STARTS WITH WINNING YOUR MIND, WINNING YOUR HEART, WINNING YOUR MIND. We must remain vigilant to the schemes of the devil. We don’t and won’t know it all but our father does. He says “put away your crooked speech.” It can start with your tongue, your eyes, your feet. Our God leaves no stone unturned when caring for His sheep. He loves us. We forget we have to let Him. Love you sisters. See you next week <3
